This year's conference championships did not include 5 top 16 teams from major conferences and one other top 16 - Notre Dame, an independent. So, all six of those teams could play a "wildcard" game on conference championship week to get into an eight team playoff. Or one could be bumped to put in Memphis who played in their non-major conference championship.
This would not be hard to do.
ESPN would hate it because while they sometimes have games, they have to have something to argue about 24/7 on several networks. Having a champions chosen by opinion is perfect for them.
If the committees job was reduced to only deciding which of 7 teams would get the bottom six spots no one would doubt the truth of the champion.
In the NFL, teams below the top 4 seeds win about 1/3 of Superbowls. I want to see it in college. It is only one more week.
