I don't understand why duo and trio chargers are so expensive. Wireless chargers from good companies are below $10, so why do I have to pay so much for a charger that charges two or three things?
Are we really that short of charging ports? Of course not. But the Magsafe Duo reaches a whole new level of stupid.
- It's $129. Apple's own USB C watch charger and Apple's own Magsafe USB C charger are $78 together. Apple doesn't make a notebook without two USB C ports. Also, great USB C chargers with two or more ports are cheap and very good. Buying a two port charger along with a sufficient watch charger and phone charger is still much cheaper. (And maybe more space efficient with more flexibility too.)
- Lightning. Really? If I wanted to use lighting why don't I just plug my phone in and charge it a lot faster?
- Lightning again. Really? So, Apple, you're telling me lightning isn't going away by making your latest dongle totally proprietary yet again. So, I can give up hope that the next phone with either have USB C like the iPads or just no charging port / all wireless.
- Magsafe isn't going forward? If you are still investing in lightning and asking me to invest in lightning that means you're never going to offer reverse charging? Isn't the answer to charge my AirPods and Apple Watch from my phone? That takes us back to one or zero cables. This stupid, overpriced, lightning-based dongle tells me that you're either putting a lot on stupid work arounds or that you're never going to have charging that makes any sense.
- Here's what we want. USB C. That charges my laptop (now), my iPad (now) and my iPhone (when?) and then those things charge all my stuff - headphones, watch, etc. wireless or wired, don't care. These are by big battery friends.
- I'm also guessing that the Apple Watch charging puck and the new phone charging puck will never be unified anytime soon. Why else this overpriced monster that doesn't actually solve the problem?
- Lastly, I'm very happy with the iPhone 12 mini size. (It would have been considered massive just a few years ago, but let's not go there.). Can we just make it thicker and have no camera bump and a much bigger battery? I hate the camera bump and I estimate that would double the battery thus making all this reverse charging make more sense. Or it could just be a two day battery, who wants that ;-)
